Helping Seniors Navigate Their Next Move

Angela has earned the SRES® designation — and what that actually means for anyone moving at this stage of life.

A move later in life is rarely just a move. It is usually tangled up with a house that holds forty years of family in it, a decision about where the next chapter happens, and a conversation with adult children who all have an opinion. The real estate part is the easy bit.

Angela has earned the Seniors Real Estate Specialist® (SRES®) designation from the National Association of REALTORS® — training built specifically around the financial, legal and emotional weight of moving at this point in life. Here is what that means in practice.

The Designation

What an SRES® actually is

The SRES® designation is awarded by the National Association of REALTORS® and focuses on one thing: helping people over fifty make housing decisions with the whole picture in view rather than just the sale price.

That means understanding how a sale interacts with retirement income, with Medicare and Social Security timing, with tax treatment of a long-held home, and with the estate planning a family may already have in place. It also means knowing when the right advice is “not yet”.

On the Emerald Coast

What this looks like locally

We work with a lot of retirees, snowbirds and families helping a parent make a change. Along this stretch of coast that usually comes down to a handful of questions.

Downsizing — moving from a long-held family home into something that takes less looking after, without losing the room to have everyone visit at Christmas.

55+ and low-maintenance communities — which ones genuinely suit how someone lives, rather than which ones have the best brochure.

Timing a sale around the rest of it — a move is often one part of a larger financial picture, and the house should not be the tail wagging the dog.

Worth Saying Plainly

The most useful thing we do at this stage is often to slow the conversation down. There is no prize for selling quickly if the next step is not settled, and a house is a great deal easier to sell than it is to buy back.

The People Around It

A move needs more than an agent

Very few of these moves are handled by one person. The ones that go smoothly tend to have the right people lined up early:

Estate attorneys and financial planners, so the sale fits the plan rather than disrupting it. Senior move managers and professional organisers, who do the part families find hardest — deciding what comes and what does not. Contractors who do accessibility work properly, whether that is preparing a home to sell or making the next one work for another twenty years.

We know these people locally, and we would rather introduce you early than watch a timeline slip because somebody was found in a hurry.

Where to Start

Whenever you are ready — and not before

Whether you are thinking about a move for yourself or helping someone you love think about theirs, the first conversation costs nothing and commits you to nothing.

We are a husband and wife, we answer our own phones, and we have been doing this on the Emerald Coast long enough to tell you honestly when the answer is to wait.
